UKMO.1 — AMM + Coastal shelf modelling
Motivation: To maintain AMM configuration, ensuring compatibility with new coastal functionality
Status : Standard configuration exists
Main tasks : TBD
Science Reviewer: N/A
System Reviewer: Rachid?
Deadline: September 2012
Priority: Medium
Principal Investigator: Enda O'Dea (enda.odea@…)
UKMO.2 — GODAE metrics
Motivation:To improve GODAE metrics (computation of meridional heat transport, meridional stream functions and transport through sections)
Status :Not started
Main tasks :To consider Mercators implementation of calculation of flow through sections and adapt existing Met Office code to fit in with this. Also, to improve the code to deal with both irregular grids and rotated grids
Science Reviewer:Clement Bricaud?
System Reviewer:
Deadline: September 2012
Priority: Medium
Principal Investigator: Rachel Furner (rachel.furner@…)
UKMO.3 — Include radiation conditions in BDY
Motivation: As part of the merge of OBC and BDY, the OBC radiation condition needs to be implemented in BDY
Status : Preparatory work done
Main tasks :
Science Reviewer: Jerome Chanut
System Reviewer: Rachid Benshila?
Deadline: September 2012
Priority: Medium
Principal Investigator: Dave Storkey (dave.storkey@…)
UKMO.4 — Develop a capability to allow OBC users to use BDY
Motivation: It is planned to suppress OBC in the long term and use BDY for open boundary conditions. We need to develop tools or code to make it easy for OBC-style boundary data files to be used with BDY.
Status :
Main tasks :
Science Reviewer: OBC user
System Reviewer: Rachid Benshila?
Deadline: September 2012
Priority: Medium
Principal Investigator: Dave Storkey (dave.storkey@…)
UKMO.5 — Validation toolkit rewriting (in collaboration with LOCEAN)
Motivation: NVTK is to be replaced with something more generally flexible, adaptable, maintainable and portable
Status: Commencing investigation into possible "off-the-shelf" solutions
Main tasks:
- Investigate possibility of using the Met Office User Test Framework (UTF) system - RH (1 week)
- Assess UTF viability once basic NEMO functionality installed - RH (1 Week)
- SV develop basic SETTE system while awaiting outcome of UTF development/tests
Science Reviewer: Simona Flavoni
System Reviewer: Rachid Benshila
Deadline: TBA
Priority: Medium/High?
Principal Investigator: Richard Hill (richard.hill@…) - consultancy role
UKMO.6 — OBS and ASM improvements
Motivation: Maintain and improve the data assimilation interface code
Status: Code is in vn3.4 but requires maintenance and upgrades
Main tasks:
- Maintain the OBS and ASM code. (No changes required)
- Implement and test any upgrades to the OBS and ASM code.
- Develop the test environment so that it includes tests for the OBS and ASM functionality.
Science Reviewer: To be reviewed by NEMOVAR partners and CMCC representative
System Reviewer: Rachid Benshila
Deadline: September 2012
Priority: Medium
Principal Investigator: Daniel Lea (daniel.lea@…)
UKMO.7 — OASIS4
Motivation:
Status :
Main tasks :
Science Reviewer:
System Reviewer:
Deadline:
Priority:
Principal Investigator: Chris Harris (chris.harris@…)
UKMO.8 — A new vertical coordinate scheme for shelf waters
Motivation: The current stretched sigma coordinate options mean the size of the surface box varies greatly, leading to inconsistent flux inputs. We wpuld like to develop a terrain following coordinate system which still provides a constant surface box height.
Status : A proposed coordinate system has been scoped
Main tasks :
- Finalise the theory of the vertical coordinate system
- Implement this within domzgr and test the effects
Science Reviewer:
System Reviewer:
Deadline:
Priority: Medium
Principal Investigator: Rachel Furner (rachel.furner@…)
UKMO.9 — CICE improvements
Motivation: Maintain and improve the interface code to CICE
Status: Code is in vn3.4 but requires maintenance and upgrades
Main tasks:
- Fix any bugs
- Consider enhancements to calculation of freezing / melting potential and interpolation of vectors around coasts
- Tidy /modify code to be most helpful to current known users
- Make NEMO-CICE functionality available in more configurations and with other improvements planned for next release.

System Reviewer:
Deadline: 30 September 2012
Priority: Medium
Principal Investigator: Chris Harris (christopher.harris@…)
