IPSL-CM7 development at IPSL

IPSL-CM7 is the future version of IPSL climate model. It will be build on DYNAMICO, LMDZ, ORCHIDEE and NEMO4.

IPSLCM7_work

IPSLCM7_work is the 1st working configuration built on DYNAMICO, LMDZ, ORCHIDEE (v4), NEMO (v4.2) and INCA. The configuration can be run with a regular or an ico grid (user choice). For the regular grid, experiments without ocean are based on v6.2 configurations, while experiments with ocean are based on v6.5. The ico grid experiments use Dynamico dynamics.

Water conservation in CM7

Improvements in LMDZ:

  • wfbilo diagnostics have been fixed (Olivier B)
  • new flag to improve conservation from deep convection parametrization: ok_conserv_d_q_con to be switched on in physiq_mod.F90 (Olivier B)
  • to be decided: do we activate ok_dqch4 for a source of water vapour in the stratosphere, a bit more coding needed ? (Nicolas L)
  • meet on LMDZ mattermost at https://mattermost.lmd.ipsl.fr/ (channel Conservation de l'eau)

  • IPSL-CM6A-LR : LMDZ-ORCHIDEE (144x142x79) with NEMO 3.6 ORCA1
  • IPSL-CM7 : DYNAMICO-LMDZ-ORCHIDEE (horizontal resolution x 79) with NEMO4 ORCA1. There are numbers for two versions of the model:
    • with sponge layer at model top: relaxation to zonal mean
    • without sponge layer at model top: no relaxation to zonal mean
